Botswana and Tanzania 2010
Read MoreDavid and I recently returned from our 3rd trip to Africa. This time we started in the Okavango Delta area of Botswana (Botswana is just above South Africa) and then ventured into Tanzania. These countries might look fairly close on the map, but Africa is huge and the airlines have few point-to-point inter-country routes, so getting around the continent is a challenge.
In Botswana, we were in the north-central part of the country where the Okavango River flows from the Angola highlands into the Kahalari desert, creating an inland delta oasis for plant and animal life. It takes a while for the heavy seasonal rainfall in Angola to swell the Okavango River and make its way to Botswana, so the wettest season in the delta is generally during June/July. Amazingly, the Okavango simply ends in the fingers of the deltas.
In Tanzania, we started in a mobile camp in the extreme north-central part of the country near the Kenyan border, then moved to a fixed camp near Lake Victoria due west of our first location.
