Central Africa/Congo Basin
Read MoreI went on this trip to photograph wildlife. Turns out, except for forest elephants and buffalo, there was little of that to see. The few animals left in the forest are hunted, and therefore hide from humans. As for birds, even along the rivers, there weren't very many. We did see some beautiful raptors, kingfishers, and pelicans along the way, but we were usually too focused on getting from point to point to stop. I soon came to understand and appreciate the wonders that wildlife protection brings to other areas of Africa, notably in countries like Botswana and South Africa.
More than 60% of my photos were taken with a "short" lens, which is very bad news for a wildlife photographer. For sure, I don't know much about photographing still life and scenery, but I certainly got a lot of practice :-) Every time you see a flower, it will serve as a chapter break between trip segments.
