Antarctica 2010
Read MoreThe next day we had to find something to do until 4:00 PM when we could board the KK. We located a local tour company that took us for a long hike through sphagnum bogs to a lovely lake in the mountains.
Between my last trip to Snow Hill with my friend Joan in 2007, and now, Quark was acquired by a large travel conglomerate. The changes in the services and overall experience were subtle, but important. For instance, in prior years on departure day, a tour of Tierra del Fuego Park and a barbecue lunch was included in the price of the trip. This year, we were on our own. Most important, however, was the elimination of free wine with dinner onboard the ship. Now that one hit home. We solved the problem by finding a small wine shop in Ushuaia and purchasing many, many bottles of Malbec and Chardonnay :-) That'll teach 'em!
