The next day we made a landing at an incredible place.... Steeple Jason Island. Getting ashore and to flat ground was a difficult undertaking. The zodiaks were pulled onto rocks by staff members. Other members of the expedition team formed a chain of hand-holds to assist us in climbing up and over slippery boulders to a point where we could get a foothold in the sand.
We encountered this skua on our way to an enormous albatross colony. We saw several skuas with these chest growths. Our biologist said they were harmless, but they didn't look so harmless.
