Borneo 2016
Read MoreWhere's Borneo? When I told my friends I was going there, every single one of them said "where's that?", so here you go. Amazingly, Borneo is the third-largest island in the world. It's politically divided among three countries: Malaysia and Brunei in the north, and Indonesia to the south, with the lion's share going to Indonesia.
In early November, 2016, it was time to depart. My friend, Linda, and I flew from San Francisco to Singapore (17.5 hrs, but who's counting?). We spent a day and night in Singapore, then flew on to Jakarta where we met up with the other 11 members of our group plus our tour operators, Irene and Chewy. We spent one night in Jakarta, then flew to Pangkalan Bun in Borneo. We had lunch with Dr. Birute Galdikas, our host (more on Dr. Galdikas later). After lunch, we boarded klotoks (boats) for the trip to Tanjung Puting National Park where we spent 3.5 days. Following that, six of us, plus Irene, Chewy, and Dr. Galdikas, returned to Pangkalan Bun, which would be our base for the next 3 days.
