The extensive loss of vegetation has led to a steep decline in the number of Proboscis Monkeys. Today there are only about 1,000 remaining in the wild. For primates, they have a short lifespan - around 13 years in the wild; 30 years in captivity. Females can remain with the same family group for their entire lives.
