Back at the hotel, we had hyacinth macaws in abundance. They mate for life and it was nesting season, so they put on quite a noisy show. Hyacinth macaws are the largest parrots in the world and, until recently, were critically endangered due to the pet trade and habitat loss. Now, they're making a very slow recovery.
