Albatross are awkward on land, waddling from side to side as they walk, but magnificent flying machines once in the air. They ride wind currents and can go for hours and hours without a single wing-flap. Taking off and landing are tricky for this heavy bird, so they seek out cliffs such as the ones we saw on Espanola as perfect places to establish breeding colonies.
