Guanacos. These animals are members of the camelid family, which consists of llamas, camels, vicunas and alpaca. Guanacos are one of the largest wild mammal species found in South America, along with manatees, tapirs, and jaguar. Their only natural predator is the puma (mountain lion). However, humans have taken a huge toll on the guanaco population. Even though guanacos and domesticated herd animals graze on different plants and plant parts, ranchers view guanacos as undesirable, which is really bad news for guanacos.
