We're completely blessed to have magnificent spotted owls in Marin County. A wonderful by-product of the bobcat adventure with the Discovery film crew was making new friends. Two of them, twins, are expert mountain bikers and wildlife spotters. They told us there was a pair of nesting spotted owls nearby, then led us to them, then made us promise to keep them safe. Turns out it's not so easy to find spotted owls even if you know where they are. They nest deep in forests and have perfect camouflage.
