It's been several years since pelicans last came en masse to Sausalito in the winter. The reason they used to come was to feed on herring, but the herring disappeared, so the pelicans went elsewhere. This year, the herring have returned in spades. I believe we have conservation efforts to thank for this. The pelicans roost in the Sausalito Harbor, and at first light go out in search of food. This morning was a real bonanza... the herring were running right next to the boat docks. It literally rained pelicans right in front of the camera.
