All those white flakes are plankton. It's amazing that the largest critters in the ocean frequently feed on the smallest. Blue whales, the biggest creatures ever to inhabit our planet, feed on tiny crustaceans named krill. Likewise for humpback whales. Huge mantas, (up to 45 ft wingspans! in certain areas of the southern Pacific Ocean) feed exclusively on plankton.
