On to Caesarea. This ancient deep sea port was completed by King Herod The Great in 22 BC as a tribute to Roman Emperor Caeser Augustus . Evidence of Herod's technical ingenuity can be seen throughout Israel, but no where is it more obvious than in Caesarea. The huge aqueducts (above) still survive, and when the sea is calm and the tide is out, the innovative port structure peeks above the water line.
